Summer 2007

Summer 2007- has been a busy one for our family. We've been to San Francisco for 10 days, then traveled to Pullman, WA to visit Grandma & Grandpa Miskin for 9 days, then detoured down to Salt Lake City for Shawns grandmothers funeral. We had a week reprieve before I headed to Girl's Camp for church - and that was an event. One day we went river rafting and we had to do it in two groups because of so many girls and only 5 rafts. The morning group went well. Two rafts got down the wrong branch of the river and had to carry it 200 yds because it wasn't deep enough. But that is all. The second group went and 3/4 of the way down the river there is a stopping point where you can jump off a 12 ft cliff into the river ( which of course everyone wanted to). Our Stake President (counselor) leadership were all involved as well. After 3 jumps he was climbing up to do it again and as he reached the top he toppled over gripping his chest having a massive heart attack. CPR and resusitation was done for 45 minutes before the paramedics showed up. Of course this sent quite a different atmosphere amidst the campers. We got all the girls back together at the main lodge and we had to tell them that he had passed on. What an emotional night and next day that was. The Stake President decided to end camp the next day (we were still to have 2 more days). Life is precious--don't waste a moment fighting with each other. Is that the last thing you want to remember? I'm so grateful for the knowledge I have been given and taught of the gospel of Jesus Christ. What a great plan has been given us to teach us to be free. I wish I could always remember this without having to have these dramatic and tragic reminders. My heart is aching for the Asay family. But they had a saintly father/husband who truly was a follower of our Savior Jesus Christ. He taught the gospel with the way he lived his life.
I just wanted to share these thoughts.
